Our pets are family. We love and care for them as such, and in return, they give us so much love. They deserve our best, and we should plan for their care in the event we're not around to give it to them. Did you know you can make a plan for your pets in your Revocable Living Trust?
California law allows for a pet trust. A pet trust is a sub-trust that can be added to a Revocable Living Trust whereby you can set aside a certain amount of money for the care of your pet(s). You can choose whether the fund is distributed in regular disbursements or as needed.
An owner can also provide specific instructions regarding feeding, housing, and veterinary care. You can appoint caretakers for your pet and a separate trustee to manage the funds, or they can be the same person. Generally, the trust continues for as long as the last pet named in the trust lives.
There are other considerations but we will guide you through the process to help ensure your goals are met. Get in touch with us today to discuss adding a pet trust to your estate plan so you can be confident your pet(s) will be well take care of should something happen to you.
